PHYTOCHEMICAL STUDY AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF JASMINUM MULTIFLORUM

ABSTRACT
This study is done on leaves extract of Jasminum Multiflorum.Extraction of leaves of Jasminum multiflorum yielded 5.16% of Pet.Ether extract,4.38% of Chloroform extract, and 18.28% of methanol extract The present study was aimed at detecting the phytochemicals and evaluating antimicrobial activities of Jasminum multiflorum known for their medicinal properties in folk medicine.The results showed the presence of alkaloids,triterpenoids,tannins and Carbohydrate.The assessment of antifungal activity was performed in terms of percentage of radial growth on saturated dextrose agar (SDA) against Aspergillus niger,Scolorotium and Candida albicans .The antibacterial effect was studied by the well diffusion method using Bacillus Cerus, Pseudomonas and Escherichia Coli.Finally, the results of antimicrobial activity of the aqueous extract showed a pronounced antifungal activity against the tested strains.The results revealed that the methanolic extract exhibited significant antimicrobial activity of concentration of 100-500 μ/ml respectively against tested organisms, particularly more effective against Aspergillus Niger,Candida Albicans and Escherichia coli than the other extracts when compared to the standard drug Chloroamphenicol,Ampicillin and Streptomycin.
