RECENT APPROACHES IN SOLUBILITY ENHANCEMENT OF POORLY WATER SOLUBLE DRUG SIMVASTATIN: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Solubility of simvastatin (hypolipidemic drug) is one of the critical aspects in formulation and development. At present 40% of new drugs is poorly water soluble and less permeable. Pharmacological action of the simvastatin can be achieved by attaining required concentration of drug in systemic circulation. Simvastatin (SIM) is a crystalline compound and practically insoluble in water and hence poorly absorbed from the GI tract. There are various techniques for solubility enhancement of poorly soluble drug. In order to increase the bioavailability of poorly water soluble drugs, knowledge of solubility, absorption and dissolution are most important parameters. Enhancement of solubility and dissolution of simvastatin is achieved by formation of nanobiocomposites using microwave irradiation Method, High-Pressure Homogenization, Solvent Evaporation, Solid dispersions and Spray drying method.
