RISK FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF CATARACT: A PROSPECTIVE STUDY

ABSTRACT
Title: Risk factors associated with the development of cataract – A
prospective study. Study background: Blinding eye diseases are
highly prevalent in many developing countries, one of the major cause
of blindness being cataract. Various risk factors are associated with the
development of cataract. The aim of the study was to evaluate the risk
factors associated with the development of the disease. The major risk
factors evaluated include age, sex, smoking, alcoholism and various co
morbid conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Study site : The
study was conducted at two different hospitals at Palakkad district.
Study period :It was questionnaire based study conducted for a period
of six months from April 2013 to October 2013.
